Here’s how to use the Chicago Document Formatter from start to finish.
First, upload your paper. Drag and drop a PDF or Word document into the upload area, or click to browse. The app supports PDF and DOCX files up to 20 megabytes. Your text is converted and shown in a Chicago-formatted preview—nothing is sent to a server; everything runs in your browser.
Second, add your Chicago title block if you want it. Fill in your name, your instructor’s name, the course, and the date. Those appear at the top of the first page in standard Chicago style.
Third, add your sources. You can type in each source by hand—book, journal article, or website—using the form. Or paste citations in NLM, MLA, or APA format, choose that format in the dropdown, and click “Import and convert to Chicago.” The app converts them and adds them to your Bibliography.
Fourth, check your writing. Use “Grade writing” for feedback. Turn on “Spell check” to enable the browser’s spell checker on your paper.
Finally, save or print. Click “Print / Save as PDF” to open the print dialog. Your formatted paper and Bibliography are included. Use “Upload another file” to start over.
